Biography

This thrilling youth adventure was going to give a real or true sense to his life. This is the triggering of his passion for the frozen North. From then on, he travels all over the world tirelessly in order to meet the forgotten peoples. He sets out by his adventures to share intimately traditional peoples' ways of life in order to show better over their adaptation to the hostile environment. Made on the background of a sporting and mental extreme commitment, his expeditions federates other values than a simple competitive spirit. They resemble more to researches into the education field, sciences and arts by being in line with a staked questioning over the place of the human being in the nature.

Gilles is a reporter of histories and he is a collector of meetings and an exchanger of ideas, a significant person of dreams, a traveller eager for beauty, purity, greatness and integrity.

Being a specialist of Siberia in which he had travelled for ten years, he collaborated as photographer with the agencies Sipa and Gamma. He manages at present in Finnish Lapland, a sled dogs breeding, which is the lonely one in the world in order to avoid the extinction of the Siberian canine primitive races. His desire is to devote himself totally to all concerns the poles.

Gilles ELKAIM is too a musher, speleologist, diver and canoe-kayak instructor.
He is the author of several books and film maker of several documentary films which were prized at plenty of festivals.

Gilles ELKAIM can speak English, Russian and the "dog language" (!) and has yet some rudimentary knowledge of Greenlandic but the netsurfers can reassure themselves, he feeds his website in French and he doesn't bite !
